I plan to form a panel on the theme of digital/computational explorations within and around the disciplines of ethnomusicology. The panel would be titled “Digital (Ethno)Musicology.” In this session, the panelists would address the ways in which they have transformed and challenged the conventional modes of field work and ethnographic representation via an engagement with digital media and technology. Since this is a combined meeting with AMS and SMT, I welcome panelists with predominantly musicological inquiries as well.

The America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010, signed by President Obama earlier this year, calls upon OSTP to coordinate with agencies to develop policies that assure widespread public access to and long-term stewardship of the results of federally funded unclassified research. Towards that goal, OSTP issued the two RFIs soliciting public input on long-term preservation of and public access to the results of federally funded research, including digital data and peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
We encourage stakeholders to carefully consider the questions in the RFIs and provide comments to the addresses specified. In order to facilitate future strategic development of DH as a leading future research paradigm, we invite all academic Digital Humanities researchers in the German speaking region to come together, exchange ideas and information and establish a joint professional organization called “Digital Humanities Deutschland” (hereafter: DHD). The DHD is intended as a chapter organization within the European ALLC (Association for Literary and Linguistic Computing).

This event will also serve as a springboard for further work based on the principles of interoperability promoted by Interedition within the domain of digital scholarly editing and research.
This workshop aims at mapping the various ways in which digital tools can help and, indeed, change our scholarly work on “pre-modern” texts, more precisely our means of analyzing the interrelationships between manuscripts and texts produced in the pre-modern era. This includes the history of textual traditions in a very broad sense, encompassing several fields of research, such as book history, stemmatology, research on textual sources, tracing of borrowings and influences between texts, etc.
