Editors’ Choice: Labor Organizations, American Labor Movement

A series of factors influenced the unfolding of the labor movement. The number of members in each organization translated into the organization’s strength and influence.
This visualization shows the number of members in each type of labor organization. The “Writers and Journalists” and the “Socialist Party,” for example, had the most members. Given the strength of the Writers and Journalist organization, it is not surprising that a print culture arose out of the labor movement.
